What We Believe part 3

The Church:

We believe that the Church is the body of Christ consisting of all true believers who have been regenerated through faith in the finished work of Christ, baptized by the Holy Spirit into His body. Ephesians 1:22-23; 1 John 5:1; 1 Corinthians 12:13.

Mission:

We believe that the supreme mission of the Church upon this earth is to witness unto all nations; to edify the body of Christ, and to glorify Christ. Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 1:8; Ephesians 4:12-16; Ephesians 1:6-12.

The Gospel / Good News:

We believe the Gospel is Good News for all peaople, in all places, for all times. The Gospel is the timeless message that in Jesus the Messiah, God is reconciling the world to Himself, redeeming the lost and establishing a people for His praise. The Gospel is spelled out clearly in 1 Corinthians 15:1-6 where Paul asserts:
"Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep."

To know God and to be ready for Heaven, follow these steps:

A. Admit you are a sinner.
Sin is anything we think, say or do that breaks God's law. We need to admit to God that we are sinners and that we are truly sorry for our sins, asking him to forgive us and cleanse us of our sin and our sinful behaviors. By admitting that we are sinners and asking God to cleanse us, we repent of our sins (turning away from them and turning towards God by faith). "There is no one righteous, not even one....for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:10, 23. "But if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us for our sins and to cleanse us of all unrighteousness" 1 John 1:9. (See Romans 5:8; 6:23, Isaiah 53:4-6)

B. Believe in Jesus (put your full trust, hope and faith in Him) as your only hope for salvation. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, so that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16 (see John 14:6; Acts 16:31; John 5:24, 1 Timothy 2:5).

Become a Child of God by receiving Jesus as your Messiah and Savior.
"To all who receive him, to those who believe in his name, he gave the right to become children of God." John 1:12 (see also Revelation 3:20)

C. Confess with your mouth that Jesus is your Lord. "If you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:9 (see verse 10.)

One of the very first things you need to do after accepting Jesus Christ as your Savior is go and tell someone about it. Don't keep it to yourself. The change that God did in your heart is the same change He wants to do in the hearts of others. By telling others about your decision to follow Jesus you will become stronger in your faith and will be given more opportunities to lead others to a saving faith in Him. Look for a solid Bible teaching church and start attending. Purchase your own Bible (ESV or NIV Life Application Study Bible) so that you can read God's Word daily. Seek out a pastor and tell him that you want to be baptized as a public declaration of your faith in Jesus as the Messiah. We would be happy to assist you with these things. Note: If you would like someone to pray with you concerning your decision to follow Jesus Christ, please contact our church using the contact page. We would be happy to share with you more about what it means to follow Jesus.

Future Hope / Resurrection:

We believe that the hour is coming when all in the graves shall hear His voice; that all those who persistently rejected Jesus Christ as their own personal Savior, shall be raised, judged, and condemned to a place of endless punishment, whereas those whose names are found written in the Book of Life shall be raised to the resurrection of Life, and to a place of everlasting Blessedness. John 5:28-29; Revelation 20:13-15; Daniel 1 and 2.

Lasting Ordinances of the Church:

Two ordinances have been committed to the local church: baptism and the Lord’s supper. Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the triune God. This ordinance, being a command of Christ, is recognized as a prerequisite for membership in the local church. Likewise, the Lord's supper was instituted by Christ for commemoration of His atoning death. These two ordinances are to be observed until the return of the Lord Jesus Christ. (Matthew 28:16-20; Luke 22:19-20; Acts 2:41, 10:47-48; I Corinthians 11:23-29)
